Veteran Nollywood actress and producer, Rita Daniels, has denied claims that she forced her daughter, actress Regina Daniels, into marrying billionaire businessman and senator, Ned Nwoko.
Speaking in an interview with BBC News Igbo on October 3, Rita Daniels described the allegations as “hurtful and false,” explaining that she only became aware of the relationship after it had already begun.
According to her, contrary to public belief that she orchestrated the union, Regina was firm in her decision and emotionally defensive when questioned about it.
“When Regina got married and the world said I was the one who forced her, they claimed I sold her to an older man. What they didn’t know is that I wasn’t even aware when they started dating,” she said.
Rita recounted that Ned Nwoko did not approach her officially until after his political campaign, adding that by the time she confronted her daughter, Regina’s mind was already made up.
“I was weak, but what was I to do? Should I chase my daughter away? I had to stand with her,” she said, noting that she chose peace over public criticism.
The actress admitted that the controversy took an emotional toll on her but said she ultimately prioritized her daughter’s happiness over societal judgment.
“People can insult me and say what they want; my daughter’s happiness is my priority,” she added.
Rita Daniels concluded that enduring public criticism was a small price to pay for family peace.
“It is better they call me names. What matters is that my family is at peace and my daughter is happy in her marriage,” she affirmed.
The interview offers a rare glimpse into the private emotions behind one of Nollywood’s most talked-about marriages and highlights a mother’s resolve to support her child despite public backlash.
